So who has found that going to the goodwill bins where you can buy clothes by the pound can help you save money or just encourages you to buy clothes you wouldn't normally buy because they are soooo friggin cheap?

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 2:49 PMI already replied to this post on PDX, so I'm not going to repeat myself here, except to say blah blah blah. She blah blah, and then blah blah.

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 7:06 PMGoodwill is where I'd by all my clothes if they had a mister big and tall section. I wear my clothes until goodwill will not take them so it would be a step up for me. Bla Bla yourself. -

Re: The twin Bins of spin make me grin.
Mon, March 29, 2004 - 9:25 PMI'm cheap but convenience is also very important. i frequent two Goodwill stores that happen to lay in my frequently travelled path. One is in a small city and always has some wonderful treasure. I've bought three wool jackets there, all of them in almost perfect shape. I had to cut open the pockets on two of them. One of the stores has bins but not by the pound. I can't drive somewhere off my path to buy something. All trips/destinations must be multipurpose -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 10:18 PMI'm not concerned by shape but whether I can fit into the clothes. Very frustrating at goodwill. I have dropped 6 sizes in the last 4 months. Even when in shape goodwill is a hard shop for me and I hate shopping.

Re: The Bins
Tue, March 30, 2004 - 12:47 PMWe have a bin place in San Francisco. Every item $1.25 - but they don't always count very carefully. I love that place. It's my favorit.
And yeah, it's so cheap that often I buy stuff that turns out not to fit quite right (not fitting rooms) or that i end up not using, but then there are some great finds. I figure that for every find, I buy two pieces that end up being given away, so every piece costs me like $3.00. That's really good.
Then of course, the place is a blast anyway because of its unusual set up. It is an "as is" only place with bins only and nothing on shelves or hangars. THere is the exciting moment when they bring in the new bins. There is the lining up for a good position in front of where they'll put the bins. THere are the professional shoppers. The regulars, the burners, the cheap bastards. The place is ideal for studying and could provide someone with enough material for a PhD in sociology.
I feel so at home there -

Re: "You look like a horse in a small tent, sir."
Sat, April 3, 2004 - 7:57 PMI think I would shop more at the bins if they had that french guy from The Matrix follow me around and make snotty comments about my purchases. Now that would be cool. -

Sun, April 4, 2004 - 7:14 PMI felt so inspired by everyone's posts that last week I went to Goodwill. Didn't find anything thou. I just don't have the patience to dig thou all those clothes trying to find my size. However, I did find a shirt and a skirt at Plato's Closet. $19 for the two items. The skirt still had the original tags on it. Marked at $49.
