Old Socks

Who saves single socks in hope of oneday finding the other one to the pair? Also how many holes in the socks are required before throwing them away. I keep socks with holes in the heals but not int the toes until the holes in the heals can be felt.

Is there a gene for sock saving? I have a bucket full of unmatched socks. Occasionally, every other year or so, I do an extra thorough search and wash of all socks, match them up and throw away orphans, always a painful process. It's the giving up of hope, I survive solely on hope so giving up any is very difficult for me.

I am horrible about saving single socks. Some of them have been hanging around for years! I also save them until my whole heel is exposed through a hole, other wise I keep wearing them. Not ones with holes in the toes though, cause they annoy me.

Some people kick heroin, some people kick meth. I turned over a new leaf on sock saving.

When a hole appears, sock goes bye bye. And not just to rags, no- sock goes to the garbage can.

An there aint no methadone for that one kiddies.

I have been known to keep one or two single socks, but then I eventually give up. Darn dryer.

My grandma used to darn out socks. I hated that, then it felt like you had something in your shoe.

You people buy different socks??? I buy only Hanes white crew length socks. I haven't had to match socks in 12 years. Also, I have to wear steel toed boots to work....which kills sock toes, so I have a 2-hole limit....unless my big toe sticks out, then, I toss them.

( I do sometimes have to wear dress pants, and when I buy them, I buy matching socks, which I store in the pocket, so they don't get lost).

LOL TERRY. You know, I'll let you in on something. My two girls steal my socks all the time and I end up with none, or that ONE sock left in the drawer. So I pull out a black sock and maybe find one single white one around the house and off I go, two different colors.

      lol

Maybe you'll end up starting a trend. look at Michael Jackson, after he lost a glove and went on to the stage with just the one.

    old socks can be recycled.
I have cut them into strips and crochetted rugs out of them.
I use them to polish finished stained glass pieces...
the soft cloth is quite usefull in many instances.

I have a bag for "Playa Socks". Singles that have been around for a while and any with holes go into this bag. A week before Labor Day I take all my (clean) old socks out and pack them out to the Burningman Festival.

It is amazing how many people show up without any socks, and are glad for anything to protect their toesies from the Cruel Playa Dust! if I wasn't such a cheap bastard I would buy a bunch of new socks and use those for gifting, but people are pretty thankful anyway (and I don't ruin any new socks out there myself).

I keep them all, the single socks that is and find a happy partner for them. As finding the matching pair I just do not have the time to put into, even if the match is still around. I wear 'em all. Socks with holes depends on how much it bothers me. It can be reused for so many different needs. I agree to the others that socks can always find another match when one is missing.
